C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense is a physical education curriculum designed for physical education teachers and classroom teachers to promote safety education to elementary students and to incorporate within their existing curriculum.

C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense provides children with:

  • Verbal and physical self-defense approaches

  • Problem solving/Role playing techniques

National Physical Education Standards

As a member of AAHPERD, NAGWS and NASPE for over 25 years, Janet takes pride in keeping with a quality physical education curriculum and supporting the National Standards in both the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program and in her physical education classes.

C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense incorporates the National Physical Education Standards within its entire curriculum, keeping in mind that physical activity, skills, knowledge of the benefits of physical activity, and the values of physical activity are continuously offered throughout the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program.

The following NASPE Standards are identified within the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program:
  • Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
  • Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
  • Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.
  • Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
  • Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
  • Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

The NEW C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense Curriculum for Middle School and High School Teens

ARE THEY SAFE? - C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense Curriculum For Grades 7-12

This secondary physical education curriculum for Middle School and High School students is specifically designed for teenagers 14-18 years old concerning situations faced by this age group in today's society.

Topics include: Peer Pressure, Shakedowns, Harassment, Approached by Strangers, Being Followed, Road Rage, Internet Safety, Cyber Bullying and step-by-step Physical Techniques appropriate for this age group.

The step-by-step lesson plans guide the teacher through each lesson, and includes discussion questions, student involvement, problem solving and role-playing.

Each lesson will give the student a new outlook for being proactive, safe, and defending themselves, by viewing, discussing, analyzing and practicing the various skills and techniques taught during each lesson.

Teach your students self-confidence through conflict resolution, verbal and physical self-defense approaches, and easy to follow lesson formats. Empower your students with the skills and techniques necessary to defend themselves from attackers.

This curriculum complies with the NASPE physical education standards and the Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools.
